No Pennington 24-Hour Feed
The official Pennington County Inmate Search is a live view of people currently shown in Sheriff custody. It has no released tab, archive selector, release-date filter, or last-24-hours view. The Sheriff also gives no public update schedule or promise that a row stays online after an exit. That means the current roster cannot be relabeled as a Pennington County 24-hour release list.
A same-day search should begin with the absence of an official feed. If a person remains on the live roster, the application still shows that booking at its latest update point. If the name is gone, the result proves only that the row is not displayed. The person may have left for the community, moved to Minnesota Department of Corrections custody, returned to another county, entered federal custody, or disappeared because of a correction or technical issue.
Check Pennington 24-Hour Releases
The strongest same-day method uses several official channels in sequence. Keep the full name, approximate booking date, and booking or SPN number when available. Those details help the Sheriff locate the right admission and reduce confusion between people with similar names. For a broader named-person search after release, the Pennington County released inmates search explains how county, state, court, and federal records fit together.
- Search the live Sheriff roster once. Record the booking and SPN numbers if the person is still shown.
- Check Minnesota VINE for that county booking. Read the event label, since release and transfer are different notices.
- Call Pennington County Corrections at 218-416-7097 when immediate routing matters. Ask which division handles the public release record.
- Request existing public data for the named booking under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13. Specify release date, release time, legal basis, and any transfer recipient.
- Follow the destination. Use the MNDOC Public Viewer after a state transfer, or the named federal or county authority after another transfer.
A phone answer can help on the day of the event. A written response is more durable when exact timing or the legal basis matters. The Records Division recommends calling before an in-person visit and states that authorized records are released within a reasonable time, but it posts no fixed turnaround for a public request.
Pennington 24-Hour Release Fields
Because no public 24-hour feed exists, the useful field set comes from Minnesota's public arrest-data law and the Sheriff record, not from a web list. A focused request can ask for the fields below. Request existing data rather than asking the office to create a narrative or compile a new custom report.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking or SPN number | Connects the response to the correct Pennington County admission. |
| Release date and time | Shows when that jail booking ended, if the event was a release. |
| Legal basis for release | May identify bond, court order, time served, sentence completion, or another recorded basis. |
| Transfer date and time | Separates movement to another custodian from release to the community. |
| Receiving agency or person | Names the next official source to check after a transfer. |
Minn. Stat. §13.82, subd. 2 makes the date, time, and legal basis for release public arrest data. It also makes transfer facts public. The statute does not require the county to retain the record for a set period, and Pennington County publishes no online retention period. Ask promptly when a same-day event matters.
Note: A request for one named booking is often easier to fulfill than a request for a newly created countywide list.
Pennington Release Roster Limits
Pennington's current roster is unusually detailed. Its result grid can show a booking number, SPN number, name, birth month and year, sex, race, height, and weight. A selected record can add bail or fine information, custody date, booking status, court details, holds, charges, and an image link. These fields can identify the booking that needs follow-up.
The application also contains internal field names for a release type code and an eligible release date. Those fields were blank on rows checked during research, and the Sheriff provides no public calculation policy for them. Their presence in the software does not create a Pennington County release archive. An empty eligible-date field also does not prove that no release is planned.
- Current roster
- A changing display of bookings shown in jail custody at the application's update point.
- Release record
- The operational record that states when and why one booking ended.
- Transfer
- Movement to another custodian. It is not release to the community.
Pennington Release Image Access
The Sheriff roster detail has a “Click to View Image” link while a current row is available. No official Pennington County Sheriff jail app was found that preserves recent-release images, and no web archive promises that an image remains accessible after release. A similarly named app or jail page from Pennington County, South Dakota, is not a Minnesota source.
For a booking photograph after the live row disappears, ask the Sheriff's Records Division for the image under §13.82, subd. 26. The statute treats a booking photograph as public unless access is temporarily withheld because release would adversely affect an active investigation. Include the person's name, booking or SPN number, and approximate booking date. Ask the office to cite the specific authority for any withholding.
A photo proves that a booking image was made. It does not prove the person left during the last 24 hours, remains in custody, or went to the community. Pair image access with the separate release or transfer fields.
Verify Pennington County Releases
The Pennington County Law Enforcement Center is at 102 1st Street West, Thief River Falls, MN 56701. Mail goes to P.O. Box 484, Thief River Falls, MN 56701. The Sheriff's main line is 218-681-6161, the Corrections line is 218-416-7097, and the fax number is 218-683-7006. The Records Division posts weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and asks callers to check before visiting.
There is no dedicated online jail-release request form. A request may be mailed or faxed after confirming the route with the office. Ask for an electronic copy if the data are kept electronically and can reasonably be reproduced that way. Inspection of public data is free under Minn. Stat. §13.03. Copy, retrieval, and delivery costs may apply, but no Pennington-specific fixed release-record fee was found.
Minnesota Data Practices guidance says a person may ask anonymously for public data unless identifying information is needed for an authorized reason. Describe the data sought, not a question the Sheriff must answer. A useful request names the person and booking, asks for the existing release and transfer fields, and seeks the response in the electronic form already maintained when that form can reasonably be supplied. If exact data are denied or redacted, ask the Records Division to identify the legal authority used.
VINE can add a timely event notice. Participating county data generally refresh every 15 or 30 minutes, but that is VINE's source-refresh pattern, not a Sheriff promise for a Pennington 24-hour feed. Keep the alert wording and confirm whether it reports bond release, court-order release, transfer, or another event.
Note: Minnesota VINE covers county detention; MNDOC prison notifications use Minnesota Haven instead.
Pennington Release Status Differences
A county jail exit does not always end government custody. The source used next depends on the event in the Sheriff record. A transfer to MNDOC moves the search to the MNDOC Public Viewer. There, “Current Status” and its effective date show whether a person is in a prison or living in the community under DOC supervision. “Anticipated Release Date” is a forecast, while “Expiration Date” concerns the end of the sentence or jurisdiction.
| Pennington event | Correct follow-up |
|---|---|
| Still on the county roster | Treat the person as shown in current Pennington jail custody and verify with Corrections. |
| Community release | Use Sheriff release date, time, and basis; check VINE's event label if registered. |
| Transfer to MNDOC | Read DOC Current Status, effective date, facility or district, and supervision fields. |
| Transfer to another county | Contact the receiving county and keep the Pennington transfer record. |
| Federal or immigration transfer | Use the specific receiving authority's locator, docket, facility, or records process. |
This source-by-source wording prevents a false conclusion. “Not on the Pennington roster” is a limited observation. “Sheriff records show release at a stated time on a stated basis” is a documented county release. “Transferred to another agency” means custody continued elsewhere.
