Pennington County VINE Coverage

Minnesota VINE is the notification route for Pennington County Corrections and other participating county detention facilities. It generally receives jail data at 15- or 30-minute intervals. That state guidance describes a normal source refresh, not a Pennington County promise that each event will appear by a fixed minute. The Sheriff remains the source for exact release date, time, legal basis, and transfer recipient.

VINE does not cover Minnesota Department of Corrections prisons. It also does not replace the BOP or ICE locators. If Pennington County transferred a person to state prison, federal custody, immigration custody, or another county, follow that recipient’s system. A transfer alert is not a community release.

Search Pennington County VINE

Use an offender ID when known. A partial or full name can also work, but common names may return more than one booking. The reporting facility and identifier are key safeguards against selecting the wrong person.

1. Open Minnesota in VINELink and choose the person-search option.
2. Enter a full or partial name, or use the offender identifier.
3. Compare each match by facility and the available identifying data.
4. Open the Pennington County record and read the current custody label.
5. Preserve the event wording if the record reports release, transfer, escape, or death.
6. Ask the Sheriff for the public release or transfer data when exact proof is needed.

The screen is a search gateway. It does not by itself show that any named person was released from Pennington County custody.

Pennington VINE Release Fields

A matched result can show the current custody status, reporting facility, a booking or facility identifier, and a scheduled release when the jail supplies one. Not every field appears for every booking. The event label matters more than a broad statement that the person is “out.”

A released result is best stated as “VINE reports a release event from Pennington County.” Then request Sheriff data to learn whether it was bond, court order, sentence completion, or a transfer. Inability to contact the person does not prove the alert was wrong.

Note: The live Sheriff roster and VINE have different functions, and neither offers Pennington County a complete historical released-person archive.

Register Pennington County Alerts

Registration begins only after selecting the correct booking. Basic registration does not require an account or the registrant’s name. Phone, text, and email choices may be offered. Phone notices use a PIN for acknowledgment and management.

1. Open the correct matched record and select notifications.
2. Choose phone, text, email, or the available combination.
3. Enter the destination carefully and create the requested PIN.
4. Complete the confirmation shown by VINE.
5. When an automated call arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge it.
6. Save the notice wording and check the Sheriff when the event needs durable proof.

The current Minnesota rack card says phone attempts continue for up to 24 hours until the PIN is entered. An older guide said 48 hours, so the current rack card controls. A notice can arrive before other public sources appear to agree because each system refreshes on its own schedule. Recheck the matched record and call Corrections when the distinction between release and transfer is urgent. Preserve the alert time and exact event wording. A later written Sheriff response remains stronger proof of the actual date, time, legal basis, and receiving authority.

County participation does not extend VINE to every later stage. If the booking leads to an MNDOC commitment, switch to the Public Viewer for current DOC status and Minnesota Haven for prison notices. Once DOC jurisdiction expires, maintained history may require Central Records because the viewer is not a complete archive of fully discharged sentences.

Pennington VINE and Haven

Minnesota’s split notification system is the distinctive local rule. VINE follows county detention, including the Pennington jail. Minnesota Haven handles MNDOC prison custody, release, and supervision notices. One registration does not cover both systems.

Haven can provide notice of a coming release, conditional or final release, agent assignment, sentence expiration, and supervision changes. The MNDOC Victim Assistance Program accepts its form by email at victimassistance.doc@state.mn.us or by mail at 1450 Energy Park Drive, Suite 200, St. Paul, MN 55108. Notices generally arrive by email or mail, while telephone is reserved for escape notice. The program number is 800-657-3830.

A Pennington booking followed by an MNDOC commitment can therefore require two steps. Keep VINE for the county event and use Haven for the later prison phase. The DOC Public Viewer separately displays present DOC jurisdiction and community status.

The split also changes how a notice should be described. VINE reports the participating county jail’s event. Haven provides specified prison and supervision notices through the DOC Victim Assistance Program. A county release alert should not be stretched into a claim about a later prison date, and a Haven notice should not be cited as the operational release time for an earlier Pennington jail booking.

If the county record states that MNDOC received the person, begin a new state search with the offender ID. Keep both records because they document consecutive custody stages. This preserves the difference between leaving Pennington County Corrections and later leaving a Minnesota prison.

Confirm Pennington County Releases

VINE is an event alert, not the final county record. For exact facts, call Corrections at 218-416-7097 for routing and seek the maintained release or transfer data from the Sheriff’s Records Division. Ask for release date and time, legal basis, and any receiving agency. Records is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and recommends calling before an in-person request.

If the person still appears on the live roster, the roster shows current custody at its update point. If the name disappears, possibilities include release, transfer, a different booking, or a data issue. VINE may clarify the event, but the written Sheriff response is more durable. VINE’s strength is prompt notice about a chosen Pennington County booking. The Sheriff’s public data supplies the legal and operational detail behind that notice.

Pennington VINE Event Meanings

VINE can send notices for several events, and each supports a different conclusion. General release, bond release, and court-order release describe the end of the reporting jail event. Transfer means another custodian accepted the person. Escape and death are separate event classes and must never be paraphrased as an ordinary release.

A court-order event does not rule out another case or hold. The court docket can explain the judge’s order, while the Sheriff’s release or transfer fields show what happened at the jail. If a notice and a later roster check appear to conflict, record both times and ask Corrections which event the current data reflects.

A focused Chapter 13 request can identify the person by name, booking number, or SPN number and ask for the release date, time, legal basis, transfer time, and receiving agency. It seeks fields already maintained by the Sheriff. Minnesota law does not require the office to create a custom explanation or new report. A narrow named-person request is often easier to route than a broad list request.

For a state-prison destination, search the MNDOC Public Viewer and distinguish Current Status, its effective date, Anticipated Release Date, and Expiration Date. For BOP or ICE, use the custodian-specific locator. USMS has no comparable public person locator, so the known partner facility and court docket matter. Each result proves only the status of that system.

Note: Preserve the exact VINE event label because changing “transfer” to “released” can erase the key fact that custody continued elsewhere.

Pennington VINE Search Gaps

If no match appears, retry with spelling variants and a partial name. Compare the available birth information or identifier without assuming that similar names refer to the same booking. A delay in county reporting, a booking in another county, transfer to a different system, or an older event can also explain an empty search. The next step is the known custodian, not a claim that no custody event occurred.

The Pennington Sheriff tool is a live current-custody roster. It has no released-person tab, stated archive, or published retention period after an exit. VINE fills a notice role for a selected booking, but it does not turn that roster into a historical release list. Save the VINE event text and request the matching arrest data when a durable record is needed.

Choose a notification channel that can be monitored and keep the PIN available to the person receiving calls. Entering the PIN stops repeat call attempts for that notice. It does not change custody data or confirm the event’s legal basis. Save text and email notices with their time and exact wording because transfer and release require different follow-up.
