Pennington County Corrections is the county's primary adult detention source. It holds pretrial and sentenced men and women. A community exit may follow bond, a court order, resolution of a charge, or completion of a jail term. Some people leave the building but stay in custody. The Sheriff may transfer them to another county, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, federal custody, immigration custody, or another authority. That distinction matters. The public record should state the date and time, legal basis, and whether the person was released or transferred.

Ask where the person went, not only whether the roster entry vanished. If the Sheriff record names MNDOC, the statewide Public Viewer becomes the next source. If another county received the person, contact that county. A federal or immigration recipient requires its own locator or records path. Pennington Jail Custody Search

The official Pennington County Inmate Search is a current-custody application. Search fields include last name, first name, gender, and a four-digit birth year. Results can show a booking number, SPN number, name, birth month and year, sex, race, height, and weight. A selected record can also display status, bail or fine amount, custody date, court information, holds, charge detail, and an image link. Those fields help match the right person.

The application has no released archive, recent-release tab, time-window selector, or stated post-release retention period. Internal field names for an eligible release date and release code do not create a public release log, especially when the values are blank. Use the roster once to see whether the person is currently displayed. Then move to Sheriff records if the name is absent or the question concerns an earlier booking.

1. Search the exact name and reasonable spelling variants.
2. Compare birth year, gender, booking number, and SPN number.
3. Save identifiers from any matching current record.
4. Ask Corrections whether Records handles the release response.
5. Request the exact release or transfer fields in writing.

Note: The current roster can route a search, but only the Sheriff's retained data can state the completed event with precision.

Pennington Jail Release Record

Minnesota law treats key arrest data as public. Under Minn. Stat. §13.82, subdivision 2, that includes whether and where a person is held, plus the date, time, and legal basis for a release. Transfer details are also public arrest data, including the transfer time, legal basis, and receiving agency or person. These facts are more reliable than a screenshot showing that a name is no longer online.

A focused request should identify the person with a full name, approximate booking date, and booking or SPN number when known. Ask for existing data rather than an explanation the office must create. Include each field needed to distinguish a community exit from continued custody.

Section 13.82 does not impose a retention period. Pennington County has not posted a specific jail-release retention schedule. Request the record promptly and keep the response.

Pennington Jail Records Contact

The Sheriff's Records Division maintains agency reports and handles authorized releases. Its public instructions say to call first, request photo identification for report copies, and allow a reasonable time. The office may withhold active-investigation material when law permits, but a denial or redaction should identify its legal basis. Public-data inspection is free under Minn. Stat. §13.03. Copy costs may apply, and an electronic copy is available when the data are kept electronically and can reasonably be reproduced that way.

A written request may be mailed or faxed after confirming the preferred route. There is no dedicated online jail-release form, fixed release-record fee, or guaranteed response period in the official material. Ask for a cost estimate before paid copies are made. For an urgent status question, the Corrections line can route the inquiry, but the written record is the better proof of the exact time and basis.

Pennington Jail Facility Record

The Sheriff's corrections page identifies Pennington County Corrections as an adult facility for pretrial and sentenced men and women. The Minnesota Department of Corrections inspection describes a secure, coed, indirect-supervision local detention facility. It is a county jail, not a state prison. State commitments may pass through it before placement elsewhere, but MNDOC records take over after a transfer to the Commissioner of Corrections.

The state inspection is the sound source for current operational capacity. No separate municipal lockup, state prison, federal prison, or dedicated immigration detention center was identified in Pennington County. Short police custody may occur before jail booking, but the Sheriff is the principal source for the county booking and release record.

Pennington Jail Release Setting

The present jail belongs to a combined Justice Center built after an older linear jail became outdated. The architectural project history says the former facility dated to 1974 and required insecure movement across a street for court. The newer complex places the jail south of Sheriff's offices with courtrooms above. This history is useful for understanding why several justice functions are close together, but it does not merge their records.

Corrections and the Law Enforcement Center use 102 1st Street West. District Court and the MNDOC field office use 141 Main Avenue South. A court order can explain why a release should occur, while Sheriff data shows the actual jail release or transfer event. A supervision office can confirm a community status but does not issue the jail's booking record. Visitors should choose the counter based on the record needed.

Pennington Jail Transfer Records

Pennington may house people whose cases began in other counties. A disappearance from its roster can therefore reflect a return to the originating jurisdiction. It may also reflect transfer to MNDOC or pickup on a federal or immigration matter. The receiving-agency field is crucial because it turns an uncertain absence into a traceable custody path.

If the recipient is MNDOC, search by MNDOC Offender ID when possible and read Current Status with its effective date. A facility name means prison custody continues. A field office with supervised-release status means the institutional phase ended, but state jurisdiction remains. If the recipient is BOP, ICE, or USMS, use that system's separate channel. A Pennington release record cannot speak for events that occurred after the handoff.

Confirm Pennington Jail Release

Use a source-specific conclusion. Say that the person is not displayed on the live roster, that Sheriff records show a release at a stated time and on a stated basis, or that the person transferred to a named agency. Do not merge those outcomes. Court records can supply the order, sentence, probation terms, or dismissal. Minnesota VINE can report an event from the participating jail. For a durable result, keep the record response with the booking number and date. If court data conflict, give Records the case number and order date. When another custodian appears, continue with that custodian and preserve each agency's wording. A BOP status, MNDOC status, or ICE result confirms only its own system.
