Pennington Supervision After Release

The MNDOC Thief River Falls District and Pennington County Field Office serve community corrections functions in Pennington and Marshall Counties. The county describes work involving misdemeanor, gross-misdemeanor, and felony probation as well as supervised release. A person who reports to this office is outside institutional custody but remains subject to a court or DOC supervision order. The office does not detain people and does not publish a list of everyone released from the county jail.

State supervised release follows a prison term and remains part of the sentence. Probation commonly follows a stayed or local court disposition and may not involve a prison commitment. The source record determines which path applies. Use MNDOC's Public Viewer for a person who remains under state corrections authority. Use the Pennington court file and named supervising agency for local probation. The jail release time still comes from the Sheriff, not from this field office.

Check Pennington Supervision Status

The MNDOC Public Viewer is the online route for adults who remain under the Commissioner of Corrections. Search by MNDOC Offender ID when available, then compare name and date of birth. On the detail page, read Current Status and the status-effective date before any forecast. A district or field-office location supports a community status. A correctional-facility location means prison custody continues.

1. Identify whether the prior custodian was county jail or MNDOC.
2. Search the MNDOC ID or exact name in the Public Viewer.
3. Read Current Status and its effective date.
4. Record the district, agent, and Expiration Date when displayed.
5. Check MCRO for probation, revocation, or discharge orders.
6. Call the listed office for procedural confirmation when needed.

There is no public person-by-person database for every county probationer. MNDOC's Statewide Supervision System is secure and not a public lookup. If the Public Viewer has no result but the court ordered probation, use the court file's agency designation and the local office contact. A missing name does not prove supervision ended.

Pennington Field Office Contact

Two official sources publish different phone numbers for the same local supervision route. The Pennington County probation page gives one number. The MNDOC field-office directory gives another. Both should be preserved because silently choosing one could send a reader to an outdated line. Call ahead and confirm the office before visiting.

The address is not the jail counter. Pennington County Corrections and the Law Enforcement Center use 102 1st Street West. Court and field-office functions use 141 Main Avenue South. A visit to the field office may confirm routing or supervision details within lawful limits, but requests for the county booking release record go to the Sheriff's Records Division.

Pennington Supervision Record Fields

A community MNDOC record can show “Under Supervised Release” or “Under Intensive Supervised Release,” the date that status began, the supervising district, the expiration date, and an agent. These fields establish more than roster absence. They show that state prison custody ended and that DOC authority continued in the community. The precise text should be retained when recording the result.

For probation, the court Register of Actions may show the sentence, stayed term, conditions, revocation, amendment, and later discharge. A court discharge is not automatically the date a past jail booking ended. Match it with the Sheriff record if the physical release matters.

Pennington Probation Release Records

Probation is a court-ordered community status. It can begin without a state-prison term, and the supervising agency depends on the order and local assignment. A stayed sentence means the court delays or suspends execution under conditions. “Time served” describes a sentence disposition, not the minute the jail door opened. A dismissal resolves the named charge but does not rule out another hold or case.

Use Minnesota Court Records Online to find the Pennington case by person, case number, or citation when remote access allows. Read the Register of Actions for sentencing, probation, revocation, and discharge entries. Then use the stated agency. Pending criminal cases and some dismissed or continued-for-dismissal cases cannot always be found remotely by defendant name, so a known case number or courthouse terminal may be needed.

MNDOC describes a fugitive as a person serving the community portion of a sentence who is alleged to have violated release and is evading authorities. A fugitive entry means there was an earlier prison exit followed by an alleged supervision violation. It does not mean the sentence expired or that a new jail location is known. This local distinction is central to the release record. A person may be released, remain on supervision, and later become wanted. State each fact separately. Neither a warrant page nor a fugitive entry should be described as a current inmate roster.

Pennington Supervision Discharge

Supervision can end by expiration or formal discharge, depending on the order and system. For a state commitment, an Expiration Date in the Public Viewer is a projected end point. Confirm the current status and seek a DOC record when an exact final-discharge fact is needed. MNDOC final-discharge records may include confinement, prison and parole history, and reasons for discharge under Minnesota law.

For probation, use the court's discharge entry and the supervision office's lawful confirmation. A completed probation term does not revise the Sheriff's historical release date. Likewise, a prison discharge does not establish when a person left Pennington County Jail before state transfer. Each agency documents its own event.

A person may also face another case, warrant, federal authority, or immigration action. A source-specific conclusion is safest: “DOC shows supervised release as of the effective date,” “the court discharged probation,” or “Records confirms the state sentence expired.” Avoid the broader claim that all legal authority ended unless each relevant source supports it.

The Minnesota Supervised Release Board is not the routine route for every determinate prison sentence. It handles narrower groups, including specified indeterminate or life sentences and some conditional-release cases. For those people, the official schedule, agenda, and approved minutes can show a board action. A grant or projected date is still not proof of the later physical exit. Confirm that event through the Public Viewer status-effective date and DOC records.

Note: An Expiration Date is not the same as an actual discharge response and can change while the sentence remains active.

Confirm Pennington Community Release

The most reliable path begins with the order or custody system that created supervision. For a prison commitment, pair the Public Viewer status with the field office and later DOC records. For county probation, pair MCRO with the agency named in the judgment. For the earlier jail exit, keep the Sheriff's release or transfer record. This layered approach prevents a field-office address from being mistaken for a detention location.

When the Thief River Falls District appears, record the exact status, effective date, expiration date, district, and agent. Call ahead using both published numbers if necessary.
